NEW FLOOR FOR THE FOYER

After we installed the new foyer closet, we were left with a bit of a….mess. Removing the kitchen pantry to enlarge the foyer closet forced our renovation into the kitchen area (see that post here).  We were FULLY aware this was going to happen and already had a plan in place to do a little kitchen facelift along with the foyer update.  The floor, however, was not initially a part of that plan.  Well, it certainly is now…. The existing…

SAN DIEGO

We were lucky enough to travel to San Diego, California this past summer, my FIRST time in California.  Let me tell you, I LOVED it there.  If you have never been to California, put it on your list!  It is such a great place to explore, relax and indulge, the atmosphere is simply amazing. We saw as many places as possible while we were there for the week, visiting recommended attractions and touring a bit of the coastline, but it was…

THE CLOSET

Last progress post we left off with a great big hole in the foyer where the closet used to be.  Oh.  I mean a great big hole combined with a smaller hole where the pantry used to be.  SO.  Now what….. Typically at this point we would move any electrical necessary (there was an outlet inside the pantry closet) then frame, drywall, mud, and paint the interior of the closet.  We’d also frame the opening and add the doors; sliding, bi-fold,…

HOW WE PLANNED AHEAD BEFORE RENOVATING

This foyer renovation has been on hold for a few years, life just takes over at times, but there was, and is,  another contributing factor that held up making these changes.  This was the consideration of making even BIGGER changes.  I always look at any space as a whole and am constantly assessing how we, as a family, use our home and what sort of changes could be made to make it function even better.  When it comes to the foyer, I have a grand plan…

RENOVATING: IT’S ALL CONNECTED

THE HALL The messiest part of this project is OVER….and it actually ended up not being too bad.  Our decision to skim coat the terrible texture from the walls in the hall and up the stairs has paid off. These pictures do not do the change justice, but I can tell you, its the best change we’ve made in this space so far!! The carpet on the stairs and the railing are going, and the curved details on the stair…

PICKING UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF IN THE FOYER

Does anyone remember THIS POST ?  That was over TWO YEARS ago!  We were just about to start a somewhat major renovation on our main floor when we were sidetracked by work, kids in sports, life. If you’ve been curious, no, the closet area did not magically begin to function for our family and, NO, the children did not learn to pick up their things and file them neatly away making for a beautiful, working entry way.  We just had a (disgusting)…

BRING ON CHANGE

I am sure you have noticed, but things have recently changed here at Love Nest Design!  Just over 4 years ago I started the Love Nest Design Blog.  As I worked as an Interior Designer at a firm here in London, Love Nest Design was a place I used to document the renovations that were on going at our own house, detail a few DIY projects, and even share some fun crafts.  It was passion project. Over the years the blog grew into a business…

GOLD DIPPED

Dipped furniture is still one of my current favorite design trends. The splash of color or contrast on the legs is such a minimal way to add interest to a furniture piece. Items appear to have been literally ‘dipped’ in paint! Here, I’ve recreated that vibe using Scotch™ Expressions™ Tape. sourcing: 1.) bench: ikea   2.) rug: target canada – discontinued  3.) frames: jysk  4.) bins and planter: homesense  5.) bag: better life bags   To learn how to recreate this…
