For the girls birthday this year we decided to have a party at the movie theatre. You only have limited time in the party room there, and the theatre provides treats so I was concerned we wouldn’t have time, or room in our tummies, for cake. I decided to make all the kids little pieces of cake to go as part of their loot bags. Party Stock sells these adorable little mason jars that are just the right size for a little piece of cake for little tummies.
Since the jars are clear I wanted its contents to have some visual interest so I layered white cake with colored icing, of the girls choice. I started by baking a simple white cake in a standard rectangular pan. Once the cake was cooled I cut it into circular plugs and sliced them into thin discs.
I scattered a few pearl sprinkles on top and that was it! Simple, easy, cute! AND? NOT cupcakes…..I know. It PAINED me. I love cupcakes but I wanted to try something a little more mobile and I am tempted to say, these mini cakes are just as cute…..
Once you have the cake and icing all piled up you can pop on the lid and do a little decorating. Be sure that you leave enough room at the top of your mini cake so that the lid can screw on without flattening the icing.
Using crafting items I had left over I tied some bakers twine around the lid adorned with paper heart cutouts hole punched to thread on.
To finish it off I taped on one of these handy little wooden spoons with washi tape cut in the shape of an arrow and VOILA! A little piece of cake to go!
YUMMMMM mini cakes! Almost as awesome as cupcakes……
