LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG WEEKEND! It’s Friday, welcome to it!! I hope you have all had a good week, or can at least think of a few things that made your week just a little bit better.
I was at Chapters yesterday, have you been recently? I often review their online shop ‘s home section and find items that are not available at my local Chapters. BUT NOW? They have a brand new, expanded, home section! Don’t worry, all the amazing books are still there just begging to be read, but in addition they have a fantastic new space for home goods and other accessories.
I ran across this funky video for Herman Miller on YouTube this week. It’s a quick pictorial video of the company’s history and I think its fantastic. For those of you who are not familiar, Herman Miller is a 100+ old furniture company that places great importance on design, the environment, community service, and the health and well-being of customers and employees.
I listen to CBC radio quite regularly (when the kiddies are not around demanding Justin Bieber) and I heard a very interesting idea being discussed. Glowing plants. Yeah, you heard that right. There is a company in California that has generated the funds to invest in developing this new “natural light without electricity”. How’s that for green design!? The technology is quite controversial, especially since the developer plans to open source the results, AND ship seeds around the states for anyone to plant. What do you think? They way of the future or irresponsible?
These are just a few things things from my week that made it just a little better. New sources for great things for the home, and interesting, informative videos that remind us of our history and illuminate the possibilities of the future in design.
