Today’s before and after converts a formal sitting room into a home office. The space is located directly off the main entrance of the home, and was not used much as a sitting room. At nearly 200 square feet, and with two large windows it was the perfect choice for a home office. This is what the space looked like before:
The wall color and flooring were the first to go, updated from off-white carpeting to acacia wood floors and cool grey walls. The office needed to be closed off from the dining area intermittently, and storage was a major necessity. An oversized sliding door was constructed and installed, and a floor to ceiling built-in unit was added to the back wall to add file and open storage.
The sliding door is a full 6 feet wide and moves across the entire length of the wall. It can be kept closed to keep traffic and noise from interfering from the dining area, or left open to keep the floor plan of the home more fluid.
The color palette for this office was kept clean and crisp by only using grey, black and white. Except for the yellow draperies, the greenery on the shelving unit provide the only pop of color. Wire baskets, succulents, antique boxes, and framed motivational prints adorn the open shelving. The lower portion holds 10 lateral feet of file storage and conceals the wireless network router and other office equipment.
The table was designed and built by Love Nest Design and provides a huge work space for projects. Storage is built into the legs, and the glass top helps to keep this large table from feeling too heavy for the space. The other furniture in the space is modern and clean, in keeping with the overall style of the room. The chairs are replica’s of the Eames molded plastic chairs, and although I would have LOVED to have used originals, sometimes it is just not in the budget! Here, I got the look for less.
